French Pass and d’Urville Island have a diverse waterway that extends from deep to shallow water zones. Nutrient rich currents from the deep Cook Straight trench feed these diverse waterways seasonally attracting baitfish and pelagic species such as kingfish, snapper and kahawhai. Other fish common to the area are groper, blue cod, terakihi, trevally, john dory, flounder, gurnard, moki, butterfish, and other reef species.

French Pass Sea Safaris offer a guided service and will target the clients preferred species. Recommendations on the appropriate fishing tackle to match the species is given and techniques are taught on the water. This personalised service can make the difference of attaining your target species or not. Group bookings are accepted. Although licensed for 16 people we recommend and maximum of six to eight.

Gear hire is available.
