French Pass, d'Urville Island and Elaine Bay offer a wide variety of kayaking locations. French Pass & d'Urville Island Splendid isolation, clear blue water, lush native bush, tunnels and waterfalls. For the experienced kayaker French Pass is the ideal departure point for your trip of exploration. Nestled in the lee of d’Urville Island, French Pass is relatively close to the sheltered eastern shore of d’Urville Island. There are two Department of conservation campsites and D’Urville Island Café is along the same stretch of coast. If you wish to take your time, explore small islands and savour the coast a three-day camping option is ideal. Enjoy playful seals basking on the islands shores, seabirds and a chance encounter with dolphins. Small bays with fresh running water provide your basic needs. Fishing is plentiful providing succulent Blue cod to a sizzling pan for a mouth watering treat. Clear night sky’s uninhibited by city lights make star gazing an awe inspiring experience.
