Spotted shag one of our five shag species are in full breeding plumage and busy making nests around the rocky shores. The vibrant turquoise blue around their eyes is simply stunning. Pied shag have chicks and our King shag are courting and busy nest building as well.

There is a lot of bird activity on the water with large flocks of shearwater, Australasian gannets and White fronted tern. Little blue Penguin are also common.

French Pass Sea Safaris gave a talk to forest and bird on dolphins and the local marine environment. Danny gave the presentation and showed some 'first time footage' of the remarkable underwater marine environment. This included a segment shot in one of the deep French Pass holes. Footage never seen before. This will soon be available on DVD.

The local environment zone trapping caught a stoat and rat over the last trapping period. This has been a very effective way of reducing pests enabling the native birds and other species to thrive. The zone is also acting as a buffer for d'Urville Island who are also looking to eradicate pests.
