A large pod of Dusky dolphins have been sighted over several days in the current basin and have moved north. Several juveniles were in the pod.
Several pods of Bottlenose dolphin have also been sighted.

Our Pied shags are too friendly to fisherman. Looking for an easy meal the young shags are waiting for small blue cod to be thrown back making easy prey. It is always amazing to see how big a fish a shag can engulf with one swallow. The unfortunate thing is that the shags are also going for the bait. If the response from the fisherman is not quick enough the shags can get hooked. Several shags have been spotted dead with hooks and line dangling from their beak.

It is the time of big tides and a full moon. The French Pass Peninsular makes an ideal viewing platform where you can see the sun set and a few minutes later the moon rise. Visitors have been treated to a large orange moon rising from the sea behind the Trio Islands, stunning.

Battles in the sky. Arctic Skuas migrate to the area to spend summer chasing Little White Fronted Terns for an easy meal. It is mesmerising to see the dogfights in the sky. The skuas hound the Terns until the Terns finally regurgitate the last fish caught making a free meal for the Skuas.

d'Urville Island Walks. The clear sunny days have given walkers an opportunity to enjoy the panoramic vistas of the Marlborough Sounds. Seeing kapiti island and the North Island Coast makes you appreciate just how far north of Wellington we are.
